Before Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers, the New York Yankees announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Diego Moreno from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.

For tonight’s ball game, Chris Capuano will get the spot start for the Yankees. With Capuano only expected to throw about 50 pitches, the club decided to add Moreno to the active roster for bullpen insurance, according to Daniel Barbarisi of the Wall Street Journal.

The 28-year-old has appeared in two games with the Yankees this season, allowing two runs throughout his two innings of work. Moreno, who was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent in 2006 out of Venezuela, has pitched in 26 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.18 ERA.

In a corresponding move, the Yankees have optioned right-handed pitcher Nick Goody to Triple-A.

The 24-year-old was called up three days ago by the team, replacing Branden Pinder on the active roster. Although he did not make an appearance for the Bronx Bombers, the former 2012 sixth round draft selection has been impressive in his split time between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a 1-2 record with a 1.68 ERA in 34 appearances.

This season the Yankees have made a lot of roster moves, especially on the pitching side of the equation. The team has been very willing to promote and demote pitchers based on the need of the big league club, as manager Joe Girardi has been able to mix and match to ensure he has some fresh arms in his bullpen.
